Karaoke software on Mac is not as common as it is on PC, but here we have looked at the best karaoke software for Mac users.
What are the best karaoke software? Whether you’re just looking to spice up the party with some impromptu drunken karaoke or you’re looking for professional karaoke software, with this option, you’ll be singing in your lungs in no time.
Note that if you’re looking for an alternative to kJams on Mac but it doesn’t work on macOS Catalina or later (including Monterey), you may find our knowledge of the best DJ software for Mac more useful.
Here’s our list of the top 10 best karaoke software for Mac users in ranked order.
KaraokeTube
Mac Karaoke Software Download: With KaraokeTube, you can start singing karaoke in just a few minutes, and anyone can easily use it.
Karaoke Tube has a modern OS X-style interface, with a library of songs at the bottom, lyrics in the main window and player controls on the left: with an impressive free library of 12,000 songs, there’s something for everyone.
KaraokeTube includes hits from major artists such as ABBA, Adele, Green Day, The Beatles, and the developers are constantly adding new tracks, although many classics are also missing from the catalog.
Many videos are just streamed from YouTube, and KaraokeTube used to be filled with videos that were just playing movie ads, but now the catalog has been cleaned up quite a bit, so only real karaoke videos are included.
KaraokeTube is not limited to English songs. You can also filter songs by language, including English, French, German, and Spanish.
You can even search for any karaoke video you find on YouTube and import it into KaraokeTube:
Note, however, that KaraokeTube doesn’t allow you to add CD+G songs, i.e. professional karaoke discs that have been ripped to your Mac.
Unfortunately, you can’t use a USB microphone with KaraokeTube at the same time, even though it recognizes one when you connect it to your Mac.
However, KaraokeTube is an excellent option for those who just want to enjoy amateur karaoke fun on their Mac, although professionals need something more powerful.
KaraokeTube costs $11.99 from the Mac App Store, and you can also try out a 15-day free trial of KaraokeTube.
UltraStar Deluxe
Collection of Best Karaoke Software: UltraStar Deluxe for Mac is one of the most impressive free mac karaoke programs we’ve tried.
UltraStar Deluxe is similar to SingStar in that it rates you based on how well you sing a track and can accommodate up to 6 players at a time.
UltraStar Deluxe’s demo is very smooth, although the annoying thing is that it opens in full-screen mode from the start – there’s no way to run it in a separate window on your desktop.
The problem with UltraStar Deluxe for Mac is that the song catalog is very small.
In fact, only one German song is included by default, but you can add more songs yourself.
However, there doesn’t seem to be many places to download UltraStar Deluxe songs – the official website only links to a few songs, but there are currently only 8 to choose from.
There are also some more recognized hits here and here, which you can add to UltraStar Deluxe, and you can find instructions on how to install them here.
UltraStar Deluxe is a well-designed karaoke game for Mac. It’s a pity that no more songs are included.
SingSong Karaoke
What are the best karaoke software? SingSong Karaoke is actually a karaoke game and the closest thing to Singstar for Mac. SingSong Karaoke will rate you based on how well you sing.
You can go head-to-head with friends or play with up to 5 other players at the same time. The only limit is the number of microphones you have.
You can use songs created under a Creative Commons license for free, but if you upgrade to the full version for $29.99, you can use real pop songs.
The song catalog contains more than 300 songs, including hits from Aerosmith, Guns N’ Roses, John Lennon, and more.
The main drawback of SingSong Karaoke is that it is based on Java. We don’t recommend installing Java on your Mac because it has all the security issues.
At $29.99, it’s also a lot more expensive than KaraokeTube, but if you want to use something like SingStar on your Mac, SingSong Karaoke is just a stone’s throw away.
Disney Karaoke: Frozen
Mac Karaoke Software Download: If your child is obsessed with Frozen, then Disney Karaoke: Frozen might be the right karaoke app for you. Disney Karaoke: Frozen is the official Frozen Karaoke app for Mac with 9 songs from the hit movie.
The songs feature videos from the movie, after which you can record and listen back to your singing. You can also export your best efforts to iTunes.
Obviously, Disney Karaoke: Frozen is a very limited karaoke app, but it’s a great app if you’re looking for something to keep kids entertained on Mac and they’re big fans of Frozen.
Disney Karaoke: Frozen is available on the Mac App Store for $7.99.
Kanto Karaoke For Mac
Kanto Karaoke is a newbie in the karaoke scene, but it is a well-designed and professional karaoke software that runs on both Mac and PC.
The free version of Kanto Karaoke supports Midi, Kar, MP3, CDG, and MP4 files, live show management, dual screen, playlist management, and more.
However, the free version is limited to 5 songs per playlist, 1 minute for recording, 3 minutes for Midi to MP1 tracks, and no pro features.
However, if you upgrade to the pro version, you’ll get all of the above features plus unlimited playlists, unlimited recordings, Midi to mp3 conversion, and lifetime updates to make it suitable for professional karaoke DJs on Mac.
Note that you’ll need to connect a USB microphone to your Mac before you can record clearly — it uses your Mac’s built-in microphone to record, but it’s not very good.
Kanto Karaoke can be a bit tricky to configure to make sure the right microphone and input devices are selected, but once set up, it’s a really good karaoke software.
The Italian developers are also very responsive and helpful if you have any questions and have published several “how-to” guides, such as a video guide on how to record sound in Kanto Karaoke:
Note that when you install Kanto Karaoke for your Mac, you’ll receive a warning message from Unidentified Developer.
This is simply because it’s not from the Mac App Store and hasn’t been verified by Apple as being from a certified developer, but you just need to right-click or Ctrl-click on the downloaded file and select “Open”, then click the “Open” dialog again when you see the warning.
In order to record, you’ll also need to download and install the Lame Encoder for Mac.
Kanto Karaoke is free but has some limitations, and the pro version is $49.95.
YouTube
What are the best karaoke software? The only other easily accessible free way to host karaoke on Mac is old-fashioned YouTube.
If you want a quick, easy, and free solution to sing karaoke on Mac, it’s amazing how many karaoke tracks you’ll find on YouTube. Just search for the song title plus the word “karaoke” and you’ll probably find a karaoke version of it.
kJams
Note: kJams does not work on macOS Catalina because 32-but support is missing in the latest version of macOS.
Mac Karaoke Software Download: kJams is the most mature and professional Mac karaoke software. Although it is aimed at professionals, the Lite version is suitable for karaoke lovers.
Initially, kJams was only available to those users who wanted to rip karaoke discs (known as CD+G discs) to their Macs, which is great for professionals who have a large collection of CD+G discs.
However, since most Macs now don’t read CD+G discs (and most new Macs don’t even have CD/DVD drives anymore), kJams now has its own built-in music store where you can search and download karaoke tracks as easily as downloading music from the iTunes store.
Tracks start at $1.99, and there’s a lot more to choose from than you’ll find on KaraokeTube. You can also change the pitch and add your own personal rating to the track:
If you have your own CD+G discs that you want to rip, kJams can play them or rip them to your Mac, but you’ll need to purchase a special external CD/DVD drive (such as a Lightscribe drive) that can read them.
For most people, the $40 version of kJams Lite will do just fine, as it lets you download karaoke tracks from music stores.
For those running a business or needing kJams for professional purposes, the $110 Pro version is worth buying because it offers more features.
Please note that unfortunately, kJams does not work on macOS Catalina, which only supports 64-bit apps.
You may also want to check out our Mac DJ software, which includes apps like Virtual DJ, which can be a great alternative to kJams on Catalina.
QMidi
QMidi is another professional karaoke software alternative for Mac, although many users find it more useful as a simple MIDI player for Mac.
QMidi supports all types of audio files, including CD+R files and even movies, and it can output lyrics to a second monitor.
But unlike kJams, it doesn’t have an integrated music store, so you’ll need to have your own ripped CD+R disc ready to upload to it. You can try QMidi for free.
The standard version costs $20 and the pro version costs $40.
MidiCo
Collection of Best Karaoke Software: MidiCo is a professional karaoke software for Mac designed to host karaoke shows. MidiCo supports all standard karaoke file types, including HD video formats.
MidiCo is similar to QMidi in that it is primarily a MIDI player that supports the creation of MDC karaoke tracks from MIDI or MP3 files.
You can also convert CD+G disc to MP3+CDG MP3, sync lyrics and insert subtitle screens.
MidiCo’s trial version is limited to 2 minutes per song, and the full version costs $29.90.
PCDJ DEX 3
What are the best karaoke software? PCDJ DEX for Mac is a professional DJ studio, but it also allows you to host karaoke sessions.
At $179, it’s easily the most expensive karaoke in Mac software, but if you’re a serious DJ or karaoke artist, then it’s worth it.
The PCDJ DEX recreates a true DJ turntable environment with all the controls, mixers, and effects that professionals have come to expect. This includes automatic beat mixing, lag-free playback, loops, heat indications, and much more.
Mac Karaoke Software Download
You can choose to use a mouse, keyboard, or even an external DJ controller unit to control PCDJ DEX 3 for Mac. The PCDJ DEX 3 is exclusive to professionals and costs $179, but if you’re serious about karaoke on your Mac, it’s a very powerful package.
We hope that some of these apps will let you sing to your heart’s content.
One last point – if you’re wondering why the Aria Karaoke software or TunePrompter for Mac aren’t on this list, it’s because unfortunately, they’ve both been discontinued.
